I wonder exactly what you have done to windows to cause those problems - all these problems people mention here I haven't see any real problems.

Where you using the windows git client that plus atom with the right plugins is great

The only annoying one is the way Dell messed up its recent sound drivers - sound is one are which Microsoft needs good hard kick up the ass.

Windows 10 is vastly superior to 7 with just a few UI tweaks. It's also supported. Performance is on par or better. If you looked my desktop, you'd be hard pressed to tell it's Win10.

The fixes you've listed get overturned by Microsoft. Just because you can hack around windows to make it temporarily do the things you want, doesn't mean it's a resolved problem.

Microsoft only does this because they've been able to reduce consumer expectations. Being a part of that means the next version will be worse.

Arghhh I wish people would stop talking about DPI like it's a resolution. "I don't need a 4k monitor, my 1080p one is already too big!" and " doesn't support 4k" are two types of comments guaranteed to come up during any mention of DPI (which is neither of these problems).

I wonder if it has an internet law already.

I don't know, what I find shameful is the insistance on a 16:9 aspect ratio. I could care less for the dpi, but an efficient workspace is all I want.

Curious if you're of the square-er or wider crowd.

There is loads of must-have proffeshional software that doesnt work on linux. Photoshop, illustrator, autocad, solidworks, etc.

As someone who has used that sort of software professionally in various capacities, I think "must-have" is a strong term these days. A lot of everyday software at work is no longer the massive-cost, massive-installation, licensing-headache behemoths of yesteryear.

Also relevant, we do have some software along those lines on our Windows 7 machines that are about to run out of support, but the only way to get them on new machines running Windows 10 is to jump on the subscription bandwagon and deal with all the incompatibilities with the older but stable versions we've been using effectively until now.

Lots of Windows apps don't support HiDPI correctly, and on many of them no matter what combination of workarounds you use you'll end up with some text being huge or some text being tiny. Heck, even Perforce, a constantly updated app in use on millions of machines, just recently fixed this. Where I have to use Windows, I always specify low dpi displays so I don't have to deal with all of that garbage.

I've wasted so much time making my WinForms app work well with high-dpi displays. Although I prefer high-dpi I probably shouldn't have bothered.

In order to prevent malware from hijacking popular file extensions, anytime an application "improperly" tries to set itself as a default app, it will revert to the Windows 10 default instead. If you are having issues with this, it's probably bring caused by a legacy app or script doing something in a way that is no longer allowed.

But what if I explicitly select a non-Microsoft app to open a PDF, or JPG? Why does Windows systematically and consistently override my choice every few days? It's very aggravating.

Most of these issues are solved if you can manage to get your hands on a copy of the LTSB (or whatever they are calling it these days, I believe the name has changed slightly) version of Windows 10. I would actually pay good money for this distribution, but it's only available through MSDN subscriptions or enterprise licensing.

It's a rock-solid, stable, garbage-free version of Windows. You don't get any half-borked feature updates, only security fixes. No Cortana, no Store, no Candy Crush.
