To the customers who spent money on Stadia and games on Stadia only to have it shut down and leave their games inaccessible it matters. If this were a free service there wouldn't be so much negative chatter about it. This is mostly people warning others to consider purchasing Stadia may be equivalent to a high-priced one year subscription.

You cant rely on Google for anything long term.

Isn't it subscription based service anyway? Probably by the time they canceled the project, there would be a competition that you can move to.

My company payed once for an outlook plugin written by, near as we can figure, a single guy and has been using it for over a decade and it continues to get updates for free.

The hump you have to get over, I think, is the one where your product doesn't explode the second you disappear. That's tough with web stuff, but easy for native.

You do realize that streaming games is an old idea and has been tried many times and Google's competitors do or will have similar services. Google isn't doing anything new here. They don't have any first-move advantage. The only advantage they have is infrastructure and scale. Whether that is enough, we shall see.
