If he broke Apples ToS then fair enough terminate the account however it isn't clear this is what happened.

If Apple terminates an account they should be obliged to provide a reason as to why the account is being terminated, otherwise it's a clear cut refund of the $100 for the dev account at the very least.

I know this won't be a popular opinion but this kind of behavior is why I'm leaning toward some of the ideas that big companies need to be broken up with firewalls between them.

Just because he leaked some details about stuff from their hardware/software divisions (violating NDA) does not mean he deserves to be treated like this and be locked out of the App Store entirely like this.

I understand there has to be some incentives not to break NDAs but given that app stores are becoming such a massive part of our lives, we cannot shadow-ban people just because the platform owners are not happy.

I don't think that really changes anything. That article clearly indicates he sourced some information from the developer program betas, which would be a violation of the NDA when publicized.

Oh, he totally has. But that doesn’t mean Apple shouldn’t tell him why they locked him out.

Consent is an active process. Either party can revoke consent at any time without cause without being an asshole; future consent thus cannot reasonably be assumed in perpetuity. Use offlineimap; make backups.

Google is running a service that is practically the most important service, for millions of people. If they get locked out of their email, they could potentially lose access to everything.

To ban people flippantly and then hide behind automated customer service is inexcusable.

To be fair, having a contract terminated by violating it isn't really the result of "monolithic software pipelines controlled by a corporation".

On the other hand, after terminating the contract, saying "you would be getting an e-mail with instructions to get your access restored", without doing so, is pretty weird. I mean, lying is not illegal, but still.

This is an issue with a lot of companies and industries. It's getting really old, and I really hope we see it happen to actual senators so we can see some damn change over it. I'd love to read about how Paypal shutdown some senators account or campaign donation account or whatever, maybe then we will see congress start to turn tables.

If you're going to discontinue service with a client then provide proper background into why that is. It's a damn courtesy.
