#365I still don't understand how so many consumers are on the Apple platform. Their tools are really painful to use from my time build for their ecosystem, slow and outright overpriced. This has been a known thing yet the entire consumer market is obsessed with Apple, I honestly don't understand it.

It's not different. The societal impact is just larger this time around.
Apple's position was never okay, and I hope this situation makes more people realize that.

One of the biggest differences between American and Chinese culture is that manifest destiny is mostly dead in America, but it isn't in China. Of course America has multinationals jockeying for global power, but that doesn't reflect how the voters think.
Americans still think of themselves as the best in the world. If that is not manifest destiny, then what is it?

This isnt about free will, its a clear indication that the US is not the worlds most important economy anymore.
So far no one has had to choose. If the US started sanctioning US companies that took these kinds of actions, then we'd find out as companies either reversed their decisions or fled the US.
Apple is a U.S. entity. It would cease to exist if the U.S. government chose.

This is not an argument in good faith. Alabama has no precedence of self governance, and that precedence is not being actively threatened by the US government. The thought that HK protesters (or Alabamians) just want to “marry their cousins or something” is icing on the cake. Just because some people think it is so does not make it so.
Better examples might be Vermont or Texas.
