Yes, the dangers of Asbestos were limited to people exposed to asbestos. It was an occupational hazard, and the uses of asbestos were largely commercial and industrial in nature. The coating is environmentally harmless and non-toxic, and easy to clean using only water or a simple wipe with a damp cloth. It repels bacteria, water and dirt, and resists heat, UV light and even acids.

How can you use water to clean it if it repels water?

well I think asbestos was marketed to consumers. that is why my house siding is made of it. And as long as I am not sanding it and breathing the dust I have nothing to worry about.

I do wonder what this really could mean for society if something like this took off.

Silica is one of the most abundant oxides in the earths crust. Our bodies have no problem dealing with it.
