#3Is there any mathematical reason for those logarithms? They just seem to cause problems (i.e. when changing time units, or if the time is exactly 1,...).
I would say it should be like: W = alpha * r/r_std + (1-alpha) * T_std/T where alpha defines if the compression or the speed is more important.

#4Any clue what the holdup is for production of new Silicon Valley episodes? I just read they're not starting production of the new season until summer 2019, and it's already been a year since the last season ended.

I read months ago that one of the producers was busy with a new series, but I don't have a link at hand.

I imagine it’s to make the scale logarithmic like the Richter scale so that it’s easier to visualize and compare compression algorithms at vastly different magnitudes of efficiency.

I thought it was pretty good-- a welcome change from completely unbearable 'let's point and laugh at the nerds' shows like BBT. The archetypes in the Silicon Valley series are hyperreal-- but I swear I've worked with (or hired or fired) every character in the show at one point or another.
And the tech aspect isn't cringeworthy. They did some homework. I've only seen seasons 1&2, but I approve.
