Yea, that's one thing that I envy Apple for. I legitimately still use the iPhone 4S as my daily driver. It had software updates for around 5 years and has iOS 9. Still works as an alarm clock, a music player, and for everything else I use it for. But it's also important to consider that lack of Android upgrades are also slightly disregardable, as API and app level updates will exist for years, and the majority of old…

I think I just have less patience for tinkering as I've gotten older (which is unfortunate in of itself, but I digress). I used to use custom ROMs on old Android phones that were no longer officially supported, but I got tired of the random and unpreventable soft bricks that would occur every few months. I overslept an important appointment because my old Nexus 5X soft bricked overnight and the alarm never went off.…

Yeah tinkering just doesn’t feel worth it. I’d love for there to be a simple way to get custom more up to date ROMs onto older Androids. But right now it seems cumbersome still. I just want things to work too.

The issues you mentioned like the soft bricking sucks.

I really liked my SE, however after the second charging port fail I got a Sony Xperia ZX2. It's just a tiny bit bigger but much more powerful.

unlocked/rooted Sony Xperia Z5 Compact here w/ Lineage OS. love it.

What was the driving factor to use Lineage? Privacy?

I wouldn't call that overpriced. Aside from just a piece of hardware, you also get the whole new-device deal with box etc. as well as free support, warranty and a clean serial/id/iCloud/IMEI/MAC combo.

Swappa operates a IMEI blacklist checker free as a public service: https://swappa.com/esn

"Sorry, this service is not allowed in all countries."

Did they really admit that their products have problems? Wow. I would have expected them to say something like "Oh yes It was totally your fault, but we can replace it for free because we're nice."

Yep. Well, “ett känd problem” as this was in Sweden, but they acknowledged it as an Apple thing. Maybe because it was still under EU warranty?

Yes if it's still under a warranty then Apple will repair or replace it free of charge.

I am certain Apple will continue selling SE or something similar. They sort of got the message from their users. There will be much better phones in 5-6 years, hopefully with amazing battery life.

How do you know they got the message? There has been no indication of any major phone company making a phone in this form factor that even comes close. If there were, I'd love to know about it. I switched from Android to iOS just for the iPhone SE form factor. At the time, there was no other decent phone in its size. Three years later, the situation hasn't changed. As my SE ages, I'm wondering what I will ever use ne…

Well, it is back in stock after all.

I don't know... The URL says refurbiahed and the page says refurbished in big lettering. The last couple of times when I looked when Apple made the SE re-available, the site didn't say refurbished like that.

Check the headline of the page: “Clearance Products Find special deals on select new and unopened products .” Emphasis mine. Now click on the words “Certified Refurbished” above that. On the page you are taken to from that link, click on iPhone. You will see an entire section of refurbished iPhones, with no SEs.

Thank you for the clarifiaction.

I've never been downvoted before for saying "I don't know".

But it's the same old hardware in the clearance section of their website. We want an updated version of the iPhone SE, the so-called SE2, with new internals. Not to mention, some promise that iOS updates will continue to be supported.

Well shit. I bought an iphone 7 this year and was planning on keeping it for a while. I did find some issues when searching the internet for iphone 7 problems, but my wife has an iphone 7 plus from when it came out and it's still working flawlessly. Is there anywhere I can look before buying a few years old iphone series?

I've been using iPhone7 for almost 3 years now. Not even a single problem. I love this phone, and got the battery replacement from apple for $29 last december. Will keep it for the next 2-3 years too. I wouldn't worry about the Audio IC issue, which I just heard only today.

That makes me feel a lot better. Thank you.
