#102Taking a look at the Rotten Tomatoes “Top 100 Films of All Time” list [1], I’m not exactly sure why it’s a model to be replicated. It’s extremely obvious that “top” means “popular and/or most advertised.” [1] https://www.rottentomatoes.com/top/bestofrt/
I would have to agree. I have never taken RT evaluations seriously which is one of the reasons I was so disappointed to hear they would be involved in the project.

If you want to go on a rant, is it too much to ask that you list examples and how they apply, rather than assume everyone here is as on top of Internet drama like you might be? Your examples might even make it clear why a RT for news would be even more difficult than the one that exists for movies.
The one that exists for movies adjusted their public mirror reflection the moment the public voiced a contrarian opinion.
What would make a similar site for news safe from such trust abuse?

It is important to understand what RT actually are rating here. It is not an aggregate of reviewers selections of best movies ever. Neither is it some aggregate of how much reviewers liked a certain movie. RT is more like a list of the movies which a lot of critics rated but fewest critics disliked. Looking in the top 10 I can see, to name a few, Moonlight, BlacKkKlansman and Get Out, all items that SHOULD be discussed. I think these also include movies that have a social message that critics agree need to be discussed.
By "uncontroversial" I mean there is broad agreement among critics that this movie is worth watching. This does not necessarily mean the subject matter of the movie is uncontroversial.

#108IMHO, journalism is slowly dying. These days you find more "opinion-based" or "make-it-viral" news pieces than proper investigative journalism. Services like this can help but at the same time they can create further segregation of true news vs poor news if most of the critics start growing to be biased.
I agree, I feel many times you can get more solid news from sources like Twitter. Especially how Western media covered Syria annoyed me to no end. To me the news coverage in my country seemed mainly aligned with Western political interests.
But I was happy to be able to follow at least 2 journalists [0][1] that were "on the ground" in Syria for some good solid investigative reporting.
