Find a differentiator. Often simply the UX differences can be enough. Look at the CRM space for example. Salesforce is a collosal mess from a UX standpoint, so companies like Pipedrive can do pretty well by specifically not being Salesforce.

My wife and I are bootstrapping a business, and we're nearly at 100 customers (92 right now). I would not say it's an easy road. We've been working on it full time for 1.5 years so far. In the meantime, you can use the export from GDocs to get an epub format.
