I agree, this is wholly disqualifying, if the other memos that have come out this weren't disqualifying enough (because they didn't come directly from Pichai). In addition to flat out being unAmerican, this will eat their culture away from the inside, and give them incentive to create tools and AIs that they should not be creating.

#13Is it just me, or is Google's CEO's behavior and take on things over the last year or so turning out pretty negative for the company? Maybe time to find a replacement?
I'd be surprised if the problem was isolated to Pichai and didn't extent throughout the management teams of Google and Alphabet.

tl;dr: Prior to the 80s, the US government was strong and never allowed American companies to organize themselves in ways that allowed foreign powers have power over them and weaken national security. Free market ideas that were implemented by Democrats and Republicans in the 80s/90s weakened the the government's power and encouraged companies to pursue profit over all else. That lead them to put themselves in situations antagonistic foreign powers could exert control over them to the determent of the US, which is starting to happen with China. If the US government doesn't strengthen its hold over these companies, the Chinese government will, which will be detrimental to US national security and public policy goals. Trump's trade war is a start, but people like him rely on a weak, disorganized state, so he's not the one to successfully see this through.

#19What about Google censoring so called alt-right videos, closing the accounts of vloggers, restricting ad revenue, and suppressing other politically charged content because it doesn't sit well with their company political views, or that of some their employees, eg cancelling the domain name sevice of the Daily Stormer?
It seems that so described liberals are happy with Google censorship if it is in line with their views, but are not if it is in alignment with the Chinese states policies.
To those Google staff members who object to Google's reentering of China's search engine market, charity begins at home.
