I don't think it is.

Here's another thread which may be for the same thing or something similar. https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/comments/2vd1g8/scam_rentyour...

It's apparently a "rent a Facebook account" scam. (The roommate apparently also provided his Facebook credentials.)

It probably isn't. But if it is, the most likely way would be by using ARP spoofing. Of course, that in itself doesn't let you bypass TLS.

Yeah, I have no idea how it could accomplish what is alleged. Just lots of very bad no good end of world comments. Have none of these people ever used public wifi?
