I don't love teams, but don't think it is horrible. It's a lot better than what I expected.

Alas, I mostly agree... But what about Basecamp or Mailchimp for example?

What big corp wants to own the liability of Mailchimp? The minute you crack down harder on customers using spammy email lists, the revenue picture changes dramatically.

I wonder what all these folks who have worked and are still working on Stride will end up doing? If I am not mistaken most of the devs who worked on Stride are located in Austin, TX. I wonder how they feel about this whole change...it must feel yucky!

HIPAA compliance doesn't mean anything unless they're willing to sign a BAA with their customers' organizations. Perhaps they're signing BAAs now, but in the recent past (~6 months ago), I asked and they weren't signing them.

Even if they sign BAAs, that doesn't mean that every health organization is willing to go off-prem. On-prem is popular for a reason.

I've seen a few companies with their own Mastodon (or compatible software) instances. They can post local-only for internal stuff or just not connect it to the fediverse at all. MIT even has its own.
