To be more clear: are they on Facebook, Twitter, searching Google, watching YouTube videos? What are they doing on those sites?

How close are they to making a purchase? Where does your service fall in this journey?

When you answer these questions you'll be getting closer to a marketing/advertising strategy.

Have you heard of “pirate metrics”? It's a great tool to build a skeleton for your marketing strategy. • Acquisition – how do your users find you? • Activation – how do you engage your audience? • Retention – how good you are at bringing them back to your site? • Revenue – where do you make money? • Referral – do your customers recommend you?

Now mix it with the digital strategy matrix (SEO, PPC, email marketing, social media presence, lead nurturing) and you have yourself a comprehensive strategy.
