I know folks love the gopher, but I’m a fan of this to be honest.

The hand drawn gopher just looked... childish? It definitely didn’t give me the impression of an efficient and well put together programming language.

Sleek new logo makes it look like a bicycle renting start up. While I think its good to refresh branding and aim to unify more things, I will miss the Go Gopher.

yeah neither does a cockroach for a database.

Well this certainly looks very corporate and professional now. I suppose that fits their targeted audience better.

It also makes developers vouching for Go seem more credible.

The rebranding might make the language look sleeker and more enterprisey but it looks that they're rejecting their spirit of playfulness in order to appeal to the likes of Oracle clients and take away more Java mindshare.

Yeah, but CRDB’s logo is pretty stylized and simple/clean. The hand drawn style for the gopher just didn’t work for a lot of applications.

It was too detailed to use as an icon, and the lines were too thin to look good when printed.
