I believe it is the same functionality as in Sublime, IntelliJ, Eclipse and others. It's a total lifesaver when editing bulk stuff, like a lot of constants and what not! One of my must-haves in an IDE.

Not eclipse, much to my annoyance.

It does exist on eclipse.

Yet it turns out that it's incredibly good, at least for what I do. So I don't care what it's written in.

why?

Speed. Sublime and Vim still have quite a considerable lead on VS Code for example (even if VS Code is much better than Atom).

I don't know how is it now, but I've used it for a couple of months for web dev on my mac and switched to Atom when noticed my cpu was 70%+ of usage all the time. I suspected it was because of the typescript plugin, but honestly I don't care Atom doesn't do that and I'm happy with it.
