I think the slider control orginates from Panic's Coda web site: http://www.panic.com/coda/ It is a great way to show a lot of content on the same page without vertical scrolling.

This is what we use at http://flow.io and it works well for us. The instant visual feedback is addictive, and a lot of users click the tabs to learn more about our app. Our bounce rate is very very low. Another interesting thing about this control scheme is that users often click the tabs in the intended order (from left to right) so you can reveal what your app does in easily digestible bite-size chunks.

Unlikely. Coffee shop locations are a pretty well studied subject, Starbucks uses a pretty well known strategy which is nicknamed "main & main" where they go for premium corner stores on busy roads. These are among the most expensive locations in retail, trying to locate next door to them is very very risky because you have very high rent without the starbucks premium which can mean a very quick crash and burn.

Most other coffee chains will prefer to locate in mid-road or one street back from the main road.

The book "Grande Expectations: A Year in the Life of Starbucks' Stock" has a good intro to this topic.

for me this generic look is the strongest with web products and i assume its that way because you as a customer would expect them to look a certain way its the same with fashion ages (say black white/ubersized black serif font) we tried to have a own look.but still not to be off shot would appreciate feedback if we managed that or not

thanks for the feedback. we believe it is better left aligned. a lot of small layout reasons to sum up an strong opinion.
