It's _way_ easier to be a functional addict if you have financial stability. The real problems with addiction (crime, disease, etc) start to compound when you can't afford the habit.
I do see a lot of existential crises occurring in people born under the current system who transition to a UBI lifestyle. Probably less so for those born into UBI.
