I was one of a bunch of people to stand in line at Costco because of listeria contamination of a bunch of different organic vegetables.

None of us got sick, so far as I know. I took 4 bags (peas, corn, green beans, unopened peas) back for full refund.

Not sure what happened to the company (in eastern Washington) because this had to be horrendously expensive for them.

I don't want any appliance like that either, and I find the Kuerig coffee maker appalling.

That said, Kuerig sells many of their machines, and many people like and use them. That fact is very strong evidence that there is a strong market for this type of product if it is done correctly.

In other words, people do want this kind of product.

Let's call it what it is: the Internet of Rent-Seeking. As far as I'm concerned, I want my appliances to NOT be networked.

We should probably split hairs here. I would love for all of my appliances to be networked -- just not on the public internet.

- Preheat the oven as I'm driving home

- Alert me when my laundry/dishes are done

- Alert me if my air filter needs replaced.

- Manage my AC/Heating for maximum energy efficiency.

- Real time energy usage monitoring.

- Turn on/off lights when I arrive/leave.

You eat the fiber when you chew the fruit, when you press it the fiber is left in the pouch.

Surely fiber is not the totality of nutritional value in fruit nor is a pouch some kind of magical fiber eliminator.

Most packaged food has a serial number on it for tracking purposes.

Going from that to sticking it in a scanner to get permission to eat it probably doesn't add a lot of utility.

I write down a shopping list because otherwise I forget things.

It would be hard to make something more convenient than a pen and paper though. And in the store crossing things off the nigh indestructible scrap of worthless paper is better than fiddling with a device.
