Google was never good. They only ever did what they thought fit their strategy at the time, to allow them to grow and make more money.

Google was fantastic and contributed greatly to breaking the iron grip Microsoft had on the industry. Are you referring to http2? The binary standard they pushed to help them crawl better and make things less debugable for the rest of the network community that's mostly small entry developers?

Great story but I fail to see the connection. This is a case of don't shit where you eat. If you want to speak out against Google then don't belong to an organization funded by Google.

If Google cannot handle some criticism from a "supposedly friendly entity" (since they are bank rolled by Google), this shows their level of arrogance and the unwillingness to change their ways.

You need to evolve with time. Especially a tech company like Google failing to understand that is rather sad.

Now Google has set precedence that they will not tolerate anything critical. So, the consultants & advisor will just praise Google till the day it sinks.

I wouldn't ask what's so progressive about censorship, but why have progressives seemingly embraced it? or at least distanced themselves from a more firm defense of free speech.

it's not a very convincing argument to quote the dictionary at someone who is clearly trying to make a more sophisticated point about political and cultural attitudes w.r.t influence peddling and interaction of money and politics.

Give me a break. Nobody is even censoring anybody's speech here. The real evil here is the lobbying organization itself. Corporations and billionaires buying our politicians and distorting the public debate is a much bigger threat than some lobbyist's freedom to argue against his boss's interests.

Yea sure. I know that it is now popular among some people to hate on Google, but hate on them in a logical and consistent way.

Do you consider every political donation to be a bribe? You may very well be correct, but a definition that includes nearly every corporation or wealthy individual may not be particularly useful as a term.

Unless the subject is a rare individual ( mother Teresa, spirituality ascended personalitie etc), rarely who shelves out resources not hoping to get something in return.

Especially not a corporation in a field heavily regulated to prevent that.

Hobby Lobby and Chick-fil-A aren't out sending hundreds of millions financing think tanks and lobbyists in Washington, they are just trying to run their own business with their own agenda. And the scale of the companies are orders of magnitude smaller than Google, both are medium sized family owned businesses.

Clearly this is just "business" [1].
