At my daughter's 2nd birthday, my mom had to put out a fire that spontaneously occurred in a bowl of chips outside. Not sure if it was this bowl or a doppelganger.

Actually one of the official 'old school' tool to measure sun exposure thru the day in meteo stations is a glass sphere with a calibrated piece of paper underneath.
