I switched to Mac at about the same time as you. I can't see myself ever going back to Windows but if Adobe ever ports their application suite to Linux, I'd switch immediately.

Alright. Maybe not nightmarish, but one of these IS objectively more convoluted than the other.

Let's start with something simple:

WHY does the "Options" button on the Windows Explorer Ribbon (in the top-right corner) drop-down to reveal a SINGLE menu item which DOES THE EXACT SAME THING as clicking on the button itself?

(Bonus: This is what happened when I tried to take a screenshot first: http://i.imgur.com/UsN554o.png — Explorer hanged when trying to remove a shortcut to a now-missing network share.)

Doubtful. Apple does crazy stuff like custom ACPI for Thunderbolt controllers so they can be very efficient. Or having each of the fins on a fan be at a different angle so they have a different pitch and fan noise is distributed across the sound spectrum (reducing total perceived noise). They were also the first (not sure if the only one) with terraced batteries.

It's universally known that display scaling is the forté of macOS, and has been for a long time

Final Cut Pro works fine (read: smooth) on the anemic Macbook 2016. Try running Premiere on a Netbook and see how that goes. This is the power of macOS/Apple: they only have a handful of devices in each category, so they can hand-optimize every single one of them. So, wrong.

I never had a Mac from age 5 to age 18, despite being very interested in computers. Only PCs. Built them myself. In 2007, at the age of 20, I bought my first Mac. I've bought Macs biannually since then. I have staffed whole companies with Macs.

And I too just purchased my first Windows PC in ten years.

My new 2016 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar hangs on resume. Whether a USB-C connected external monitor will work or not is a total crapshoot. The TouchBar display becomes decomposed intermittently. The battery runs down to zero once a month, forcing a total electrical disconnect and a hot computer. I am afraid to install flash for Safari, fearing it will cause a black hole to form in my office, so I have to run Safari or Chrome depending on the situation. Each gives me a very disappointing 3.5 hours of battery runtime. Opening the computer is a gamble: will the keyboard backlighting work or not? It's impossible to know in advance.

On top of all of that, Apple's refusal to push on component quality means that this computer is just plain slow, despite being maxed on RAM and CPU. Also it was $3000.

If you want a computer that is snappy and just works these days, you probably want a Windows computer.

Instead of choosing one platform and making a big deal of it, why not just use whatever suits you at that moment and avoid features that tie you to only one platform, making it inconvenient to switch? For me, at least, it seems best to be aloof when it comes to operating systems. Loyalty to only one may have some minor benefits, but is likely to make you feel like you ought to have a say in the direction that platform is going.

Uhm no. Here in Norway Apple is huge. Go to a major Asian city and there are Macbooks everywhere. Sure there is higher percentage of Apple among some devs and for places with higher income, but to call a major product from one of the most valuable companies in the world "exotic" is absurd.

Mumbai and Bangkok are not Asian cities. Those are South Asian cities. A far lower standard of living than real (east) Asian cities such as Shanghai or Tokyo.

I'm in the same boat. I switched around 2008-2009 to jump on the iOS app wave, but am more interested in Windows since 10 and Azure. I still think their rMBP 15s are the all around the best you can buy. I haven't tried the track bar version yet though. Also, OS X (or whatever) on a rMBP is still great for surfing the web. The zoom with the trackpad is flawless.

You can try it on any Mac with https://github.com/bikkelbroeders/TouchBarDemoApp however the touch bar does not seem all that useful to me and I think that the previous model, (2015), is all around a better buy, higher performance CPUs, standard USB 3-A, MagSafe...
