While the performance of Ryzen is pretty good, the overall power consumption and efficiency (idle, semi-load and load) i still no where near Intel. They won't kill 2-3 hour battery life on Macbooks for a AMD CPU.

For editing, you want to use the highest possible starting bandwidth (sampling rate * bit width) because every intermediate edit and calculation leads to round-off and other errors. You also need them to be WAVs or some other raw format since you cause minor errors every time you compress + decompress something, not to mention the performance loss. In practice, fixed-point or floating-point is better depends on the operation you plan to use and whether you have a good idea whether you'll be able to stay in a fixed range ahead of time [1].

No, but the difference between i7 and Xeon is significantly less than what you'd have to pay for that extra RAM. We're talking O($100).

#97If you were thinking of this as being a cheap CPU for a GPU training rig. It only has 24 PCI Express lanes. It might be better to stick with Xeon CPUs because most have 40 lanes.

It's about $2000/week to rent an IQ180. If you can afford the rental price, you can afford a computer to process the images.
