Last time I checked on my insurance it was going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $1K/mo for PrEP. Now minimums would be met soon enough but still way too expensive. The website mentioned in the article appears to sell it for ~$54/mo which is crazy.

Is shame especially effective at preventing irrational behavior? Is there anything in your life you would be doing differently if you were a 100% rational agent with unlimited willpower? If so, do you ever feel ashamed when you fall short?

You can take that view on any number of issues: "It'll get better when these people get their act together". The problem is, you'll never see the day when that happens, so proper allocation of blame is completely beside the point. If, on the other hand, you stop trying to figure out who deserves to be helped, you can actually make a difference.

Both divorce and out-of-wedlock births (and sexually transmitted infections) are highest, in the U.S., within the southern evangelical communities that most readily practice exactly the sort of shaming and stigmatizing you're talking about.

HIV is a pretty rare disease. About 1 in 300 people in the USA. So I don't understand 1 in 4 gay men are HIV+.
