Charging people as a subscription service for meditation help feels a little queasy. Also I think it's a Silicon Valley neurosis that you need an app or technology to address problems like depression and low self-esteem (which meditation in the traditional sense addresses).

This post should be titled as a "Show HN", not "Launch HN". The rules are here https://news.ycombinator.com/showhn.html

A demo page on your website would be helpful for people to get a feel for what the service is about. Currently there is a lot of friction to even understand the service : download the app, signup. My guess is that a lot of people (atleast here on HN) were turned away by the friction involved to understand the service.

Why do I have to sign up in order to meditate?

Because it's a business.

Sure, but it's a bold move to try onboarding users that have zero information about the actual product -- like how much it costs, the pricing model, the quality, the variety, features like offline playback, platform support.

It’s been interesting seeing the pricing difference between tech’s take on monetizing meditation (cheap subscriptions or high-priced lifetime access) and those done by the mindfulness “thought leaders” or Sounds True (varying levels of lifetime access ranging from very cheap to very high-priced).

I think the proper comparison would be with rocking up at a monastery and talking to some actual humans.

Cost? No idea.

Been watching this founder for a few years after seeing her tell her first app's story at a gathering. I have to say at first i was very impressed by the hustle... and now am totally repulsed by it. Her first app failed because it was basically a pay-to-be-advertised-to situation which always go the same way: Sure people will try it in droves, until the money dries up.

While there's nothing wrong with trying and failing, there is such a thing as failing gracefully. As the app was melting down and things got desperate she took to playing the "oppressed female founder" card getting articles in HuffPost et al about how a creepy engineer asked her out after she interviewed him (screenshots of emails and everything). Was she really offended? Probably not. Will she do basically anything for attention? Seems like it. Not somebody for which I'd look forward to working.

Then when the thing finally failed and some company bought the corpse, of course it was a "successful acquisition" according to her rosy social media profiles. (Hey! Also featured in Huffington Post and Business Insider.)

Im fully aware I sound like a butthurt pedant, but I despise over-the-top, self-promotional, wall street, non-technical me-too-ism, and also blatent oppressed group card-playing and quota-fulfillment. The world should work more meritously and efficiently than this.

Oh really? Don't tell us secret. It's fine to be a muh diversity guy and PC culture asshat.

It's not fine to shit up HN with this kind of garbage. Bring your A game or go back to /pol/.

The only reason she is getting top post because 'muh diversity', 'muh womyn', 'muh stanford'

App is shit. There are hundreds of apps for doing meditation. Why are you americans always idiots? Well, burgerbro, use you head.

You know why 5 min / 10 min or whatever fuck meditation does not work? because building habit requires getting rid of smartphone.

This girl is bringing in smartphone as a medium. Sooner or later it will fail.

I don't have anything against her. I am speaking truth.

I wish this fucking politically correct culture dies and YC gets true open door policy like open borders for the country they aspire for.

This is plain discrimination. But, when YC does it, one must accept it.
