I worked for 8 years in research, mostly turning research prototypes into usable web products. My most common role was to manage offshore development teams and rescue projects that had gone astray. Unlike many programmers, I can talk to (and listen to) customers, develop wireframes and look beyond the list of cool features to see the bigger picture of making a usable product.
