My bank does this as well. It's unfathomable, they went straight from a 90s site to a touch-friendly-desktop-hostile site. Not sure if incompetent devs or stupid management, or both.

I also really hate this trend.

The apparent consequence of Mobile First is that we've collectively shifted focus to mobile at the expense of desktop (and tablets)

We were supposed to focus on BOTH.

I too hate when desktop websites hide all of their navigation behind a burger menu. I also generally hate all mystery meat navigation.

The way that it's used here though it seems reasonable. All of the important navigation is along the top header of the site. The burger menu is just the equivalent of a "more" dropdown. The fact that it's on the left may lead you to think that the stuff behind it is important (being a left to right reader and thus a left to right scanner) but after clicking it once, that's clearly not the case. The only thing behind the burger menu that someone who uses this site regularly _might_ use occasionally is search and even that's unlikely since search on all reddit/HN clones is complete crap compared to using Google "site:frontendfront.com thing I want to find".

I'm not understanding why the submitted title has "can ask questions" in it. The only obvious user action I see is "+Add story" at the top of the page and also in the hamburger menu. This makes the site more like a HN/reddit news aggregation site rather than a Stackoverflow q&a. (The about page at https://frontendfront.com/about does mention "ask questions" so maybe the brothers intend that to be possible in the futu…

Ok, we'll put the HTML doc title up instead.
