#9After Andrew Tridgell (SAMBA, among other projects) reverse-engineered the bitkeeper protocol [1] in order to create his own client, the license was rescinded for everyone.
As a result, Linus wrote git.

#10This is very cool... but also, kind of a bit late. The market already adopted git and the momentum is there. Unless there is a trivial way to switch back and forth from git or there is something that is orders of magnitude better, this is a decade too late.
