#3It seems to me most of this stuff can be done via unix command line if you are so adept... without this app.

#4I've strung together something using bleve full-text search and some OCR libs to scratch my particular itch but it still doesn't quite get all there.

What existing tools can automatically generate a virtual filesystem based on tag metadata?

no not virtual filesystem, i meant querying your files by date or tag... find, grep and something to print the tag would do the job.

#8Hallelujah.
Down with the hierarchical paradigm.
Down with Reductionism.
Long live Systems thinking.
Long live Connectionism.
Not everything has one canonical representation. Not everything can be clearly represented from one view point.
The view needs to be determined by the viewer. It's just the way the world is.
Trying to smash everything into one and only view point is frustrating and totally pointless. Unless of course you fetishize order, tidiness and control.
But then the joke's on you.

But where is the metadata? With OP's tool, it is in some db, so you don't have to tamper with your files or their name.
