Yes, all you have to do is get rid of your nervous systems pain receptors. Crippling back pain- why hang on to it? Please tell me your post was ment ironic. There are people out there who cant move without pain medication - and who regularly hear a "Get a job." from the same guys who recommend "Dont do drugs!". It may come as a shock: I know, its a strange thing to contemplate- but others might not be a copy of you.…

In many other countries, pain is treated without highly addictive opioids. Only in the US are they available at that scale.

Well, yes. But that is a completely different thing than "don't do drugs".

The best part of the article:

"Dr. Curtis Wright, who led the agency’s medical review of the drug, declined to comment for this article. Shortly after OxyContin’s approval, he left the FDA and, within two years, was working for Purdue in new product development, according to his sworn testimony in a lawsuit a decade ago."

Says it all doesn't it?

Can you give me some examples or pointers to websites? I am interested in alternative pain treatments, because my condition still gives me a fair amount of pain, and I am open to trying new things :)

It's quite simple: Don't do drugs. Next question please.

Sometimes the world isn't as black and white as that. I was misdiagnosed as having IBS a couple of years ago, and became addicted to oxycontin, because the pain was no severe I couldn't go to work without it. At one point I had to have a colonoscopy, and I had to stop taking oxycontin 48 hours before the procedure, the withdrawl was hell. I remember being scatter brained, unable to focus on anything for more than a f…

How was going to work on the oxy? I had surgery a few months ago and stopped taking them after 2 days because I couldn't focus (or really think clearly) after taking a dose.

I was doing web development at the time, and I too found it hard to focus, especially on deeper problems - e.g. visualising deep stack traces or class hierarchies. I was able function, but it definitely required more conscious effort
