Force-press the left edge of the screen, then swipe to the right. It can take a little bit of practice to get a hang of it. I find kinda rolling my thumb works well to trigger it. Swiping all the way across goes to the last app, just partway opens up the app switcher.

I am always surprised by these expansive US plans. In France for instance, you can have 50 GB LTE for 20 € per month (with Free). In Austria, 10 GB LTE for 15 € is not uncommon.

What impulse makes people think that comparing an isolated fact from something so multidimensional makes for an interesting contribution? Particularly considering this isolated fact is contributed to every tangentially related conversation, I really struggle to see the value in commenting with it.

I would be surprised and I'm curious too. I always assumed a barometer was how the iPhone measures flights of stairs climbed without expensive GPS calculations.

I'd really like to see this as well. I enjoy my Nexus 6, but it's at the upper limit of what I can comfortably use, and I've seriously debated whether I care more about screen size or one-handed usability, since the Nexus 6 sacrifices some of the latter for me. And people I know with smaller hands could really use something closer in size to the iPhone 4s or iPhone SE, which the current generation of Nexus devices completely ignore.

Out of curiosity what use did people find in a barometer?

Apple themselves use it to count the number of flights of stairs you climb. Google uses it in Android phones for faster GPS and for indoor location mapping.

I'm using it to forecast the weather by crowdsourcing billions of live atmospheric pressure measurements at Sunshine (https://thesunshine.co).

Other use cases are for migraine headache prediction/prevention and other health-related issues. The primary and most exciting use case however is weather forecasting!

Edit: Basically, barometers are useful for any altitude-related task, as their error margins for relative altitude changes are very small. Additionally, if you can filter out the altitude data as noise, you're left with atmospheric data, which has immense applications when crowdsourced at scale.

This phone's naming convention (which at least seems better than the confusing iPad names: mini, Air 2, Pro, Pro) brings back fond memories of the Mac SE.

That said, I think Apple has too many devices now. I remember reading the book "Insanely Simple", in which the author lauded how simple Apple's lineup was. While it's not too confusing, it's definitely going in that direction.

Of course, I am being hypocritical. The 5s is my favorite iPhone, so this new product is what I wanted all along.

Or "Standard Edition" ala Java SE...really not doing themselves any favors with the ambiguous, expanded naming conventions here.

Or "Second Edition" ala Windows 98 SE.
