We have used Feathers to build http://www.zeek.ai/ and have been really happy with it so far. The consistency between the client and server libraries makes developing with Feathers fast.

Despite reading that webpage I still have difficulty understanding what the actual product of zeek.ai is. Has it something to do with converting Twitter followers to customers?

The title (which is not the title of the original article) makes it sound as if Meteor is not open source. Meteor is open source, and MIT-licensed at that.

Disclosure, I'm one of the creators of Feathers. You are right Feathers is MIT and so is Meteor. They both do real-time, albeit a bit differently, so we like to consider Meteor an alternative to Feathers and vice-versa. We are trying to be as transparent as possible and because we don't currently have any formal support from anyone except for the contributor's time and energy, we rely heavily on the community and nee…

What happens when the connection between the server and a client is broken? Will Feathers automatically (and invisibly) restore it?

The term "real-time" means that you can guarantee certain timing constraints. It can only work on a substrate (OS) that supports real-time processing. So I am sure that "real-time" is not what this package is offering.

My guess is that they are pulling that from Socket.IO's use of the same "real time" term. Which I suppose is to denote that it's not ajax polling (though I understand that Socket.IO does poll in some situations...)

I think it's automated following and message sending to Twitter users. Maybe...

My issue wasn't with the idea of Feathers being an alternative to Meteor... it was with the original title which made it sound as if Meteor wasn't open source. It wasn't even a defense of Meteor, just a clarification of the title.

Sorry to tell you this but the term now has a different meaning within the web development community.

If that bothers you then regain your composure by remembering that 'computer' once referred the operators of calculating machines - not the machines themselves:

Language changes.

'proprietary' in the Targeting section is misspelled fyi

Out of the box maybe the wrong way to describe it. You install additional plugins for the different data sources support.
