$250M / 10 yrs / 12 months / 3000 employees = $700 per employee-month

10 month -> 10 years
But in total it would be more, because that price won't Cover Runtime expenses

I agree, but I feel that I already know the answer. That is the assumption being the best talent is on the peninsula. If you open an office too far south or across the bay, then people from Mountain View upto San Francisco will not come to work for you.

Google already buses its employees from all corners of the Bay. So they know there is talent outside of the Peninsula.

#8Recently my rent in Sunnyvale for a nice two bedroom went up to $2900* a month from $2100 Looks like the trend will continue.
*not including trash and utilities.

Actually Sunnyvale isn't considered part of the SF peninsula even though it borders Mountain View.

Yup pretty straightforward spillover from Palo Alto -> Mountain View -> Sunnyvale -> Santa Clara that we've been seeing over the last 20 years.
