If you're looking for an alternative, we built one at Nylas. :) https://github.com/nylas/sync-engine
Nylas looks awesome. Has anyone built a plugin for it that allows for "message snoozing"? That was the real ingenuity with Mailbox IMO.

#152Ugh. Yet another intriguing email startup being acquihired and killed off by a more-established tech company (see also: Sparrow). It's 2015 and I still bounce around email clients every couple months because all of the major options have substantial flaws.
Webmail is way too ubiquitous for desktop email software to be worth the million dollars a year it costs to hire five bay-area software developers to build and maintain it. I imagine Dropbox would have kept it around if it saw more user traction, but it didn't. Inbox by GMail has some of the ideas from the Sparrow team incorporated in it, but it's only really usable on mobile. (The desktop Inbox web app is awfully sl…
I'd like Inbox-like features theoretically, but the fundamental UX/UI is done better than anyone else IMHO.

Gmail on mobile does have a unified inbox: http://techcrunch.com/2015/03/30/gmail-for-android-gets-a-un...
Gmail for Android does, I suspect the OP was talking about iOS.
Instead I get downvoted. Gee, thanks. Since when has downvote come to mean disagree on HN?

Sure the build is 2+ years old, but the usability is just incredible. I haven't found anything better on desktop since.

It only came out 6 months ago or so, I honestly thought I was doing him a favour letting him know about the new functionality. Instead I get downvoted. Gee, thanks. Since when has downvote come to mean disagree on HN?

Yet that same Silicon Valley rewarded Mailbox with $100MM in an acquisition...
That's exactly my point. Silicon Valley rewards "go big or go bust", it doesn't reward "small, sustainable business". I don't for a second blame the founders of Mailbox for doing what they did. When the market creates a strong set of incentives like this you can't really expect anyone to do anything other than take the $100m. But this is the side-effect.

If you're a desktop email aficionado, I'd love to hear your feedback on N1. It's kind of similar to Mailbox desktop, but works cross-platform and is open source. https://nylas.com/n1 (Also feel free to write me directly. mg@nylas.com)
Is the email stored on your servers ? Do we get contacts and calendars inside the app as well ? If yes, on which email providers/account types ? Why isn't this info on the website ? Thanks.

"We gave a lot of thought to open-sourcing the underlying system, and none of that thought will be elaborated on here."
I'll elaborate on their behalf: "That would be hard and expensive and we have money to make."
