The title sounded like the setup for an awesome joke. The problem is, now I want to hear that joke! :(
I wrote the title and blog post (that's me looking all awkward at the beginning of the video). Originally I wanted to just write "walk into a foo", but the reference was deemed too oblique for biologists, even with the hyperlink. Would love to hear your ideas for the rest of the joke!
Second: I am not a comedian. For a good reason: If I was, I could not afford to sit in a heated apartment or use electricity.
I kind of feel reminded of the one where a biologist, a mathematician, a physicist, and a computer scientist are riding a train, look out the window and see a black sheep. "Oh," says the biologist, "sheep around here are black." - "Well," replies the mathematician, "all we know for sure is that at least one sheep around here is black." - "Strictly speaking," adds the physicist, "all we know is that it looks black from this side, viewed from this angle in this light, and so forth.".
"Oh no", goes the computer scientist. "Not another special case!"
There are many, many variations of this joke around, but it has no bar, of course, let alone a foobar. I am still trying to imagine what kind of place a foobar would be. Either really funny or kind of scary, I guess.
