GMail 5 on android is ruining my life, why on earth truncate the subject to show message content in the inbox view?

If the font bothers you then you are doing it wrong. Form over function your interest, then go impress people you dont know with shiny new things.

The clarity with which you express your ideas is far more important than your use of Verdana rather than Arial.

How about letting the receiver choose whatever they are comfortable with?

You can just send it in text/plain.
