It's not dead. It's not dying. I'm not even convinced that it's wounded. If it is then it's definitely only a flesh wound.

It's a bit like concrete in the building industry. Yes you can make buildings without it, no it's not the sexiest thing. But you look around and somewhere at the bottom of most buildings there'll be some concrete doing the hard work.

C's like that. You can envisage a world without it. You might even prefer a world without it. But it's there and it's not going away in a hurry because a fair chunk of the foundations of our world are built on it.
