#2This is short-sighted thinking and I feel Bernie Sanders just wants to give countries like China an advantage over the US by intentionally hobbling our tech advancements.
It's already out in the world and there is no stopping it.

China open-sources their models, US companies can use them and build upon them, China isn't in an AI race for domination, they are simply making sure they have the tech available to themselves and others without strings attached.
It's a thoroughly thought out defensive strategy, one that makes adversarial attempts at containment-based dictate backfire. Strictly speaking, following Sanders' advice would avoid the possibility of serious harm to the US due to an ill-conceived domination strategy.
Yeah, "the out-of-control AI" is BS but he can't possibly expose the true reasons because both parties would lose face.
