Re: Ask HN: Who is firing? (August 2026)
#2I recently had a situation where I was told I would not be completing my probation period because I detected a data breach (in not so many words)... then the person who did that (CIO) was themselves removed from their position.
So now they have to hunt for a new CIO and I have to hunt for a new role.
Womp womp.

#3How do you define "firing"? I recently had a situation where I was told I would not be completing my probation period because I detected a data breach (in not so many words)... then the person who did that (CIO) was themselves removed from their position. So now they have to hunt for a new CIO and I have to hunt for a new role. Womp womp.
Also, I've seen what you are describing a few times. Usually happens in companies with certain financial incentives to hide "problems"

Good question. I'm intentionally leaving it vague to see what people come up with. Also, I've seen what you are describing a few times. Usually happens in companies with certain financial incentives to hide "problems"
(It wasn't a business -- that's what makes it worse. I can choose not to give someone money, but I can't refuse to transact with "The State", so any security issues are compounded.)
