Skip down to Section 2 in the post for some good technical detail on what happened. While a technical background is probably required to understand everything, what's nice is that a deep technical background of Bitcoin is not required.

And yeah, the diagrams and tables are likely AI generated, but I've found the Wizards Sardine team historically to be quite knowledgeable and level-headed about Bitcoin.
