This is the usual cycle of game developers. There are usually layoffs after a project, even if it's successful. It's why I never chose game development as a career.

Contractors same deal. Work on some big company moonshot style thing and just as it's all in the can, you're let go.

That's true, but in this case, I would have naively thought they would immediately start work on Battlefield 7.
