OpenAI Hacks Hugging Face, What Happened, Alignment and Paper Clips

I am not reading or hearing anything about criminal charges or even indictments brought by the state or national government. I really hope this isn't the beginning of corporations getting even more protection from the liability for their criminal actions. Because this was a crime commited by openai. Not by an ai, by the corporate person OpenAI. The human persons in OpenAI corporation are already protected from criminal liability for their actions by the corporation itself. Adding in another layer of protection by pretending that OpenAI is not responsible for their actions because of "AI" is going to make our world a lot, lot worse.

So, their defense in court will be "The AI did it"?
