#2The article on Wikipedia doesn't touch on when you'd use this. In computer games of the past, calculating the square root of something, on hardware that couldn't necessarily even do floating point math, meant that square roots were expensive. So in order to compare distances, you'd use the taxicab distance instead of the Euclidean distance.
