Re: Peter Steinberger on Hacker News
#2I also saw Andrej Karpathy reply to this post from Peter and he supported Peter’s take on HN (https://xcancel.com/karpathy/status/2025352414648566071). Weirdly, he doesn’t care about the problems on Twitter/X either, or that he is a close associate of Elon Musk, who regularly calls for remigration, AKA ethnic cleansing. Yet he has the nerve to call HN toxic.
These people are soft skinned but also propagandists, spreading a false take about the HN community. What’s actually happening is that they don’t care about the much larger toxicity on the platforms they use like Twitter/X, because it does not affect them personally. They don’t care about THAT toxicity. But if some random comment, one among hundreds, attacks them on Hacker News, suddenly this is a problematic platform. In other words, they’re willing to overlook all the harm suffered by people (mostly minorities) due to Twitter/X but they will not tolerate a single harm to themselves.
Re: Peter Steinberger on Hacker News
#3So he saw a small number of comments that were “personal attacks” (what were they?) and he chooses to generalize and launch his own “personal attack” against the entire HN community. From a person ironically posting on Twitter/X all the time, which is the most toxic community there is. In fact, in a reply to his own post, Peter shared an example of a personal attack … from Twitter/X ( https://xcancel.com/steipete/sta…

Perhaps there are comments elsewhere that only use his first name, or older comments I was to lazy to comb through.
If not, there were no comments on HN similar to the nasty example he quoted from XTwitter.

I'm guessing it's the comments dang refers to here, but they've been cleaned up: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47103337
I suppose I give HN a pass for personal attacks if they are flagged. That's actually one reason HN is the only social media I use.

#9Sam Altman called the man a genius, looks like he is as genius as the orange toll wizard is a genius. Instead of solving problems yap about it as loud and obnoxious as you can on X. Peter Steinberger fits right in there with the other losers supporting the wild party King of Epstein Island.
