If the UK were smart, they'd pay their academics as well was they're paid in Germany.
But they're not. Why be paid a maximum of £55k for a high cost of housing and utilities, when you can go earn 65k€ (same amount) and pay less on housing, utilities, and food.

#6Being in academia, you realize how much of an echo chamber it is. Fears keep looping back through each other in those circles.
Not to mention, the article doesn’t mention how many of these scientists are foreign origin— that’s a pretty glaring omission in an academia where more and more scientists are here for a visa.

Actually, I think that's the point. Since WWII, a significant portion of the scientific talent in the U.S. has come from abroad and have made great contributions to our innovation, wealth, and global stature.
Now, these scientists are leaving, and as a result we can expect far fewer to come in the future.
This is a big deal. Countries around the world have envied the U.S. for its ability to attract the best talent. The current administration has jeopardized this critical advantage in a matter of weeks. Mark my words, we won't regain it in our lifetimes.
