Nobody has to try and figure out. People can decide to do what they want and don't have to justify themselves.

Indeed. And one of the things they can decide to do is figure out what the motivation was behind this is. No one has to justify that either.
But it's not hard to justify. If I worked in the environment Asahi left because she said she didn't feel safe in it, I would be trying to find out what happened and in particular if it was likely to effect me.
If I was Asahi and didn't want that sort of speculation, step one would be to just leave it at "I've paused work on Apple GPU drivers for personal reasons". As it is saying it was because the environment is unsafe, but not saying why it is unsafe makes it look to me like speculation is subtly being invited.
