LA Times turns off AI commentator that defended the KKK

NY Times reporter Ryan Mac has the receipts on the AI generated commentary that defended the KKK alongside an opinion article in the LA Times. LAT has removed the comment and disabled the AI feature for now.

From what is highlighted, there's nothing controversial. Can anyone read a "defense" into the words?

Skokie IL isn't going to forget its Klan march. The South is littered with monuments to rebels and slavery. I didn't read any celebration there of the KKK. Whitewash history at your peril.
