Ted Cruz recently released a database of "woke" DEI NSF awards. Exploring the data it is clear they just did a search with terms "homo" and "hetero" and "race". Some of their "woke" DEI awards include-

CRII: NETS: RUI: FUNDAMENTALS OF WIRELESS NETWORKING USING BATTERY-FREE DEVICES IN INHOMOGENEOUS ENVIRONMENTS

HETEROMOLECULAR INTERFACE DESIGN FOR BETTER MULTIFERROIC MOLECULAR SPINTRONICS

BUT ARE IMPORTANT PROBES FOR ASTRONOMY SINCE THEY CAN BE TRACED DIRECTLY BACK TO THEIR ORIGIN

Oh, they grepped for a lot of "bad words". Like bias:

Won't somebody think of the woke .. proteins?

If hypocrisy made a bit of difference and if shame had any power any more, the 'free speech warrior' contingent banning research based on a list of illegal words would be the end of this particular political moment. Alas, they seem to revel in it.

If you look at Cruz's the spreadsheet you'll see that there are DEI categories for the grants and they don't match the OP's complaints (which posits they're included for sex or race keywords).

The first one is labeled with "STATUS" & "JUSTICE" and the grant says: THIS PROJECT ALSO INCLUDES A PLAN TO CREATE VARIOUS EDUCATIONAL AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCES FOR UNDERREPRESENTED MINORITY STUDENTS TO PROMOTE DIVERSITY IN THE WORKFORCE.

The second is labeled with "STATUS" and the grant says: STUDENTS FROM UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS IN STEM FIELDS ARE ALSO A KEY FOCUS

The third is labeled with "JUSTICE" and the grant says: ... WILL EMBED ITS DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION PRACTICES INTO ITS EVERYDAY RESEARCH ACTIVITIES...

Literally every grant I click through has similar text in it.
