#2I think part of the problem is we're no longer guided by experimentation because the experiments have gotten too expensive. We now use mathematics to guide us to look for most likely outcomes and then conduct experiments to confirm those outcomes.
But I think the real crises is one of philosophy. We now believe that singularities, which were once considered to be indications of a flawed model, to be manifested in reality - such as the case with black holes. This is problematic when you're using mathematics to guide you in conducting experiments.

Yes, but she never bothered to offer any other alternative and also never addressed the gorilla in the room: conducting experiments in fundamental physics is expensive. How are we supposed to best use our limited funds?
You can't run experiments willy-nilly in the hopes that something interesting happens. We run experiments to test theories and the only tool we have for developing theories is mathematics - and we're ignoring when our mathematical models lead to nonsense such as singularities.
