I'm so curious to know _why_ the Greeks went "yep, that river Acheron, that's one of the five rivers of the underworld". Does it emerge from a cave? Drain into a cave? Just look spooky at night?

Maybe there's a certain smell? Sulfurous, or rotting?

city upriver burries a guy.. cave. Graveyard caves into a underground river, river fills with corpses for a week?

One wonders, why the rebellious colonies would host so many heads that refused to participate in the believer theatre company.
