A university degree in any field is merely the admission ticket to the relevant profession.
Based on my observations and experiences (and I have decades of that), you need to:
1. Develop the ability to learn fast in the real world. Not theory, but practical aspects.
2. Have the willingness to see problems and effectively applying your knowledge and experience to come up with viable solutions which people will pay for.
3. Develop the ability to effectively network, communicate with people. Mainly to listen and understand. Building empathetic connections is what makes relationships endure.
4. Commit to a domain / niche in which you become a recognized expert. Generally, the more specialized, the more lucrative. However, if you pick a soon to be dead-end, then you need to restart from scratch.
